How to Choose xFusion — the Decision

  1. Match the platform to the workload. General rack (2288H), AMD (2288 V7), 4-socket (2488H), storage-dense (5288), GPU (G-series) or rack-scale (FusionPoD) — that fixes the family before you configure.
  2. Decide V7 vs 2288 V8. V7 is mature and often faster from stock; the 2288 V8 is the current generation for new multi-year builds.
  3. For GPU/AI, screen destination and end-use first. G-series and FusionPoD carry accelerators subject to export controls — settle eligibility before spec'ing.
  4. Size cores and RAM to the workload with N+1 headroom (see below).
  5. Confirm authorized channel, serial and warranty region before payment. We verify the warranty region matches the destination.

How to Size a FusionServer Host — the Numbers

Sizing is mostly cores and RAM. Rules of thumb: ~1 physical core per 4–6 vCPUs at moderate load, 4–8 GB RAM per VM plus ~10–15% host overhead, and 20–30% headroom for N+1. Worked example — a 150-VM consolidation at ~4 vCPU / 8 GB each needs ~100–150 usable cores and ~1.3–1.5 TB RAM; a pair of 2288H V7 (or 2288 V8) 2U hosts covers it with N+1. Databases push toward more RAM and fewer VMs (2488H V7 for big in-memory); AI pushes toward GPU (G-series) and away from oversubscription.
